Isn’t this vintage car a beauty?

Margaret and I passed him ((slowly – I was trying to get a decent picture through the car window!)) on the way to this morning’s workshop.

Gotta love 1950s automobiles….classic lines, all curves and angles---meant for sock hops and malt shops and drive in movies – and drag racing!

I always envied my mom’s era – She graduated high school in 1959 and all of the cool cars, great music, fabulous movies, great fashions were all in HER era.

The sewing machines of the 1950s followed along with the cars of the 1950s…..great colors, cool styling, fashion appeal…..I think they appealed to the MEN who were buying them for their wives as much as for the wives themselves..

Take a look at this one, found on Pinterest:

Now THIS is a Cool Cat Sewing Machine!
It matches the car we saw!

I don’t have a red machine in my collection.  I’m keeping my eyes open --- Even though this looks fancy, it is still a straight stitch machine, gauging by the presser foot and the dial.  No place for cams or levers, I don’t think this one zig-zags ---

In class today we had another “Blast from the past”  How many of you remember THESE?!:

I LOVED These rulers and had them all through school.

I remember tracing the stencil to mark my notebooks and folders with my name.  Mine was yellow!  Did you have one of these?

I’m stitting at the Dallas airport waiting for my 9:30pm flight --- just browsing email and trying to get the inbox a bit better in order – it’s gone wild over the past couple of days.  I’ll arrive in Abilene by 10:30pm if not sooner --- I hope to be in bed by 11pm – because tomorrow…

We do it all again with the Abilene Quilters Guild!
